Omotoke...

This week better be beautiful o because I woke up to a not cool news and I'll be diverting from edibles in this post. Forgive me but I have to 'breathe'.

I am writing about a strong woman I've come to know from afar. Omotoke Makinwa!

I wokeup today to a heartbreak, NO not for me but for someone I 'love' (for lack of another description). Men can be wicked sha! How could Maje do this to my Toke? How?

happy girl
their dad (in AYs voice)
I know comments are rolling and tongues are wagging. Don't even know why I'm doing this but I'm guessing it'll clear my head a little.

I'll tell you a story.

I at a time often heard of a Toke Makinwa whom people had negatives to say about and THAT was what got me interested in her personality. My kind of person tries never to assume but see for myself and/or witness before concluding.

Long story short, I listen to her on radio and follow her on instagram‎ and came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what 'they' say, this lady forges ahead anyway. There, that's 'our' love story.

See ehn, on IG she posts a lot of pictures and I mean A LOT. I read somewhere that it is her 'get away'. At the time, I wondered what she was getting away from. I now know that apart from her busy schedule, she probably was getting away from Maje (every woman has her cross, I guess he is one of hers. I have mine biko)

From Toke's posts, I also concluded that this woman loves God and I'm forced to believe that God loves her as well. I believe that she PRAYS.

See the thing about a praying woman ehn, she understands that God is the only one who will listen to her pains and not mock her.

For you 'talkers and haters', do you think beneath  ‎all that beautiful Toke doesn't cry? Do you think she didn't have an inkling of Anita? Do you believe she found out the same time you did? Do you think she doesn't give up attimes? Do you think she is perfect? Are you perfect? The koko is at the end of every and any episode, this babe comes out strong and live her life for herself and God.

It's not that I don't have anything to blow up as regards Maje, i'll rather give room for sanity. I'm interested in the heartache Toke might be going through. I pray that the peace of God occupy that heart.

Toke, I know you don't know me. But if you get to read this, please forgive him. That's what we women do at the end of day. Not for ourselves but for God who has said we should FORGIVE.
A Christian woman cleans up EVERY mess in the house. Clean this up babes.

Much Love,
Bolade.

Ps: I have to run, ill update the post as soon as I can if need be. wrote this from the top of my head.

BANGA!!! the banger

I did make Banga soup for the first time EVER and if I can say so myself, it was DELICIOUS yes mouth watering, saliva inducing, very tasty, toothsome, palatable, yummy, enjoyable, 'oolalacious', and very much fit for kings and queens who are reading this.

If you don't know Banga soup and you have stepped foot on the Nigerian soil, see? You are a learner. For those in the diaspora, you'll love it when you do taste it. I promise.

Now Read, Learn and cook baby *whistling

Banga known by those of the south eastern part of Nigeria as *Ofe Akwu is a soup/stew made from palm fruit. I understand now that Ofe means soup/stew while Akwu means palm fruit hence the name merge Ofe Akwu that is Palm fruit soup.

Tip: Palm fruit oil extracted for Banga contains less saturated fat than palm oils.

I will try as much as possible to give detailed information in a bid to make up for not having written for so long. BTW, Happy New Month darlings. XOXO

So! You will need apart from your pot and cooker;
Palm fruits (reasonable amount)
Beef, stock fish(panla/okporoko), cow leg/ hide, etc
Ugwu and scent leaves
Crayfish, scotch bonnet, onions, Cameroon pepper
Ogiri okpei (locust beans)
Salt and stock cubes (to taste)
Mortar, pestle and sieve

Once all these are in your kitchen, it's time to get busy

1a. Extract the oil from the nuts; wash the palm fruits very well and place in pot filling it with water and place on medium/high heat.

b. Cook till palm fruits are soft that the flesh is easily pierced. Sieve out hot water and transfer to mortar to pound immediately.
c. Add water and sieve carefully making sure to use water sparingly so as to have a consistency that's thick bearing in mind that stock from beef etal still awaits for later use.

if properly extracted, the pulp should look like this.

2. I really hope that you know to boil the beef, stock fish etal while boiling the nuts unless you have just one heat source. If not, sharply register that.

3. While all that is boiling, wash mortar and pestle and introduce onions, crayfish, cameroon pepper, scotch bonnet , locust beans (ogiri okpei)  and pound away till you get a rough consistency
                                               OR
pour all in a blender and use the pulse button to get a rough blend.

4. Wash and cut the ugwu and scent leaves to satisfaction and keep aside. For those in the diaspora, pumpkin leaves will come in handy here.

WELL DONE!!! Now to the saliva inducing part of this toothsome delicacy.

a. Boil the palm fruit extract on high heat till it thickens
b. Pour in the boiled beef, cow leg/hide, stock fish into the boiling palm fruit extract.

this is what we call #sokutuyo where I'm from.
c. Add the blended/ pounded crayfish etal into the pot as well as the leaves.
Note: if the soup is too thick, add stock at this stage.
d. Add salt and stock cubes to taste if not satisfied even after adding stock.
e. Notice the aroma? loving it? call me to say THANK YOU! and come on here to leave comments. LOL
f. Let simmer for a few minutes paying attention to the palmoil formation atop the soup.
g. BANGA SOUP IS READY.

My friend had hers with white rice but as a yoruba girl on point, rice wasn't as deserving so yours truly did justice to it with ...

wait for it ....

this is the IT.

POUNDED YAM.

I hope you enjoyed this and will try it out soonest. Do drop comments. Thank you.

Cake Mistakes of life!!!

Is 'Day' someones name now?'

I could give countless reasons why there has been no post but NO EXCUSES *sadface*. I am so sorry that I haven't blogged in a month. My bad!

Now to the koko, haha. I was jejely surfing the web when it occurred to me to check out cake mistakes and what I "seed" ehn, I refuse to laugh alone.

Usually when a client orders a cake, it's okay for the baker to ask what's to be inscribed on the cake among other things. For example,

Client: I want a round cake. Use purple to inscribe "happy anniversary"
Baker: Okay/ done/ I understand/ etc.

Imagine you are the client after having that conversation and you get a 'joke' out of that. Here goes

Feliz Cumpleanos
Do you get the gist now? the instruction was I presume 'write happy birthday in spanish on the cake'. OMG!. It simply should have been 'Feliz Cumpleanos' on this cake o. What would you do or say to the baker?

Have a good laugh if you can decode these

Really? 'I shalln't shorp this cake o'

This baker should be flogged. Abi? hahahahahahahaha

rara, 'Tank you' woulda been more appropriate.

this baker is in Oyo.
I know because 'tsh' isn't in their dictionary often.
 Shout is pronounced South. hahahahahahaha
Okay. I'll giggle and reduce the laughter. If you don't get the jokes, biko don't ever think of being a baker o.

this one done did it.Don dada toh bahd.
 lmaooooo

Choi, see the 'congratulations', 'underneath' and 'wedding'.
how person no go laugh ehn?

how can someone do this to a 2 year old child? why evils *sobbing*

Simple 'Welcome' you cannot write. I'm sure that 'simple English you cannot spoke'

okay, there are a lot more that I just couldn't deal anymore. Hahahahahahahahahaha

Please leave comments if you understood the joke in this post and tell us how you'd deal with the baker. Thank you.

DIY Christmas Cake

It's just tomorrow shielding Thursday from the eyes (if days were objects). Yayyyy, merry christmas to the faithfuls of this blog and beautiful passersby.

the one who designed this pix meant to add 'from Cakebuzz'
SO IT'S CAKEBUZZ WISHING YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS

In the spirit of merrying, I'm posting a christmas cake idea to go with all the jollof and fried rice with chicken, fish or ponmo (all join).

There's this lovely pink Rosette cake I once stumbled upon online and made for a client. One could do the Christmas version of it; because WE CAN.

What you'll need for an 8" cake are:
250g butter, 500g icing sugar, butterscotch/ vanilla extract, piping bag, star tip nuzzle and of course a cake board.

Whisk butter and sugar till fluffy and add extract.
It's really simple.

Add your food color (stick with any colour of your choice); in this case green and red if you choose. Fill piping bag with buttercream and start decorating.

How to decorate:
Hold the tip a little away from the surface of the cake and make spirals as you desire. work your way around till the cake is fully covered with the rosettes.

VOILA! Christmas cake don land. lolz

Just picture the pink in your chosen colours.
Thank you for dropping by. Be nice, leave a comment. Mwahhh

The inception!

Okay, so I'll be going down memory lane. Lolz. I was a corps member when I enrolled in a bread making class so as to skip cds (it was very legal) *wink*. See? as awesome as good bread is in your mouth ehn, the process of making that one bite is not beans (not 'unstressful'). The Kneading part is the toughest *argh*.

Long story short, I tried out whatever we were taught in my spare time. Different kinds of bread and even tried other connects such as meat/chicken pie before I finally decided on Cake making (story for another day).  I took my 'experiments' to work consistently and my sister my friend Nwanma used to say, 'so I am your guinea pig ehn, remember that when you perfect your skills'. That cracks me up till date.
So that is my first independently made bread! Those are chelsea buns by the way.
